Sukkah Panel
Painted; acrylic on plywood
60in x 36in
The panel represents the color changes that occur through out the year. Starting at the bottom, the panel goes from late summer through the bright colors of fall; then it transitions to the muted colors of early winter and then to the wonderfully white and bright colors of a snowy mid-winter. As the snow melts the white is replaced by dirty browns and grays. Spring emerges from those gray colors with touches of yellow and green and eventually the pastels and bright greens of spring are everywhere. These slowly change into the deeper darker greens and reds and purples of summer. The Hebrew words are a line that is said in the Amidah between Sukkoth and Passover, and in the panel the words span those seasons. The words mean "and he who makes the wind and the rain", a prayer for rain and a reminder that winter, although challenging at times, is part of the cycle of the year.
